Administrator instructions
This page has a
backlog that requires the attention of one or more administrators.
Please remove this notice when the backlog is cleared.
Requested moves is a place for requesting the retitling of an article, a template, or a page in the Wikipedia namespace. Any logged-in user who has been registered for more than four days and made at least ten edits can use the [move] tab located at the top of each page to perform simple moves (see Help:Moving a page). However, administrator help may be required if the desired title is already occupied (usually in the form of a redirect with a page history of more than one edit) or matches the title blacklist.
In some situations, the value of a move may be under dispute, and discussion is necessary in order to reach a consensus. There is no obligation to list such move requests here; discussions of page moves can always be carried out at the article's talk page without adding an entry. This page may be seen as a place to advertise move debates that would benefit from wider community input, or for users to request assistance from administrators in moving pages.
Most move requests are processed by a handful of RM regulars who are familiar with naming conventions, nonbinding precedents, and page moving procedures (see also Wikipedia:Moving guidelines for administrators). Requests are generally processed after five days, although backlogs of a few days develop occasionally. If there is a clear consensus after this time, the request will be closed and acted upon. If not, the administrator may choose to re-list the request to allow time for consensus to develop, or close it as "no consensus".
What can be moved?
Separate processes exist for moving pages other than articles, and for changes other than page moves:
Images: To rename an image, upload the image again, but with the name you want. Then change the relevant links to reflect the new name and list the old image at images and media for deletion.
Categories: To rename a category, propose it at categories for discussion.
Stub templates: To rename a stub template, propose it at stub types for deletion.
Mergers: To merge two articles, make a request at proposed mergers or be bold and do it yourself.
Cut and paste move fixes: To request page histories to be merged, list them at cut and paste move repairs.
Requesting uncontroversial moves
If the move you are suggesting is uncontroversial—for example, a correction to spelling or capitalization—then update the article's text to reflect its new title. For example, change the incorrect lead sentence "A Suprise Speach is a..." to "A surprise speech is a..." If the move is uncontroversial and the move is technically possible, then please feel free to move the article yourself. Remember that page moves are possible, for anyone with an account at least four days old, in cases where the target name doesn't already exist, or in cases where the target is a simple redirect—a redirect to the source page, with no prior versions in its edit history.
If there has been any debate about the best title, or if the article has recently been moved in good faith, or if anyone could honestly disagree with the move, then treat it as controversial. Otherwise, post your request in the Uncontroversial proposals section of this page.
If the only obstacle to an uncontroversial move is not an article (e.g. a redirect or a disambiguation page with a single target article), the template db-move can be used instead to have that page deleted under criterion for speedy deletion G6.
Requesting potentially controversial moves
Please follow all three steps listed below when requesting a move.
- Step 1 — Add move template to talk page
- Enter NewName at the top of the talk page of the page you want moved, replacing "NewName" with the new name for the article, or add moveoptions if you are unsure of the best title for the article.
- Step 2 — Create a place for discussion
- If the discussion does not already exist, create a section at the bottom of the talk page of the page you have requested to be moved. This can take any form that is reasonable for administrators to follow, although it is convenient to use the heading
==Requested move==, because this is assumed by the template in step 3. The template can be used to create a framework for a poll, but be aware that polling can be divisive.
- Once the requested move process is at an end, the only record of the requested move is kept on the talk page of the article. The current page name and the suggested new name must be placed at the top of the section where the move is discussed so that editors who read the talk page in the future can see clearly what the proposed move was.
- Step 3 — Add the request to the "Other proposals" list on this page
- Add at the top of the section under the date line, replacing PageName, NewName and reason for move with the existing title, the new name for the article and the reason for moving it. The template will include all the necessary formatting, including your signature.
- Alternatively, if the new name for the article is unclear, add at the top of the section under the date line, replacing PageName with the existing title and reason for move with the reason for moving it. The template will include all the necessary formatting, including your signature.
Moving several pages at once
An example of how to request to move a block of pages:
*(Discuss) -- Rationale goes here. --~~~~
**Page A → Page D
**Page B → Page E
**Page C → Page F
On Talk:Page A, follow steps 1 and 2 above (add Page D to the top and create a section for discussion).
On Talk:Page B, add Page E to the top.
On Talk:Page C, add Page F to the top.
Uncontroversial proposals
Only list proposals here that are clearly uncontroversial but require administrator help to complete (for example, spelling and capitalization fixes). Do not list a proposed page move in this section if there is any possibility that it could be opposed by anyone. Please list new requests at the bottom of the list in this section and use rather than copying previous entries. The template will automatically include your signature. No edits to the article's talk page are required.
If you object to a proposal listed here, please re-list it in the #Incomplete and contested proposals section below.

Incomplete and contested proposals
With the exception of a brief description of the problem or objection to the move request, please do not discuss move requests here. If you support an incomplete or contested move request, please consider following the instructions above to create a full move request, and move the discussion to the "Other Proposals" section below. Requests that remain incomplete after five days will be removed.
- Rock Supergroup → Supergroup — Move over redirect. Article was originally located at "Supergroup" but was moved (apparently) for disambiguation purposes, yet the article is all-inclusive - it covers all kinds of supergroups not just rock supergroups. (The move to "Rock Supergroup" seems additionally unnecessary, given that "Supergroup" redirects to it.) — ChrisB (talk) 06:08, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
- I moved Supergroup (disambiguation) to Supergroup. There are supergroups outside music. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 09:52, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
- Even still, "Rock Supergroup" is not an appropriate title - it's not an actual term (and is not the term used in the article). (The article was moved from "Supergroup" to "Rock Supergroup" a few days ago without any discussion.) If we can't reset the pages to where they were before the move, "Rock Supergroup" should be moved to "Supergroup (music)". -- ChrisB (talk) 19:41, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

- Can you provide several links to album covers (not selected for one spelling or the other, just a random sampling) containing the spelling of her name? Badagnani (talk) 23:01, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
-
- I think my "almost all" above was too weak. For example, on Google Books, "Yma Sumac", with no accent, gets 633 hits while "Yma Súmac" gets 2 (two) hits. Anyway, you can look at her album covers here or here. They all use the spelling "Yma Sumac". Spacepotato (talk) 23:13, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Same-sex couple → Same-sex relationships —(Discuss)— Relationships is more broad than couples. It is problematic to determine when two people having a relationship have officially moved into being a couple. Also, changing the name to be a plural makes it so that the the article is talking about all relationships, not just one in particular. --Joshuajohanson (talk) 18:26, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Kosovo Polje → Fushë Kosovë —(Discuss)— After the declaration of Independence the circumstances in Kosovo have changed, Kosovo is now a place with albanian as the primary language, also if you google Fushë Kosovë you get 1,270,000 results, wihile Kosovo Polje gives only 165,000 -- CD 17:20, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Tentacle rape → Tentacle eroticism —(Discuss)— article discusses a genre of art, some of which is pornography and some of which depicts rape. However much of the work described in the article does not concern rape, and not all of it is unambiguously pornography as opposed to erotica. For example the main example work in the article is a woodcut by Hokusai from 1820 which is generally recognised as fine art, and which depicts a traditional Japanese story involving consensual human/octopus sex. The article about the Hokusai woodcut itself links to "tentacle eroticism", which is then redirected to "tentacle rape"; the former name more correctly describes the article, and is a more commonly used term. This has been discussed on the talk page since December 2005, with all commenters in favour of the move. --Viveka (talk) 15:17, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Apple iPod range —(Discuss)
- iPod touch → iPod Touch
- iPod nano → iPod Nano
- iPod mini → iPod Mini
- iPod photo → iPod Photo
- In each case, the second word is a part of the name, (i.e. it is not "a touch", but a product called "Touch"), and according to WP:MOSCL proper nouns are generally capitalized, with no legitimate reason to make an exception here (WP:MOSTM makes it clear that Apple's styling does not entirely apply to us). To make it clear from the outset, the styling of "iPod" has no bearing on subsequent words, and does not exclude the entire title of an article from the usual rules of English, and WP:MOSCL and WP:MOSTM should be read in their spirit, rather than arguing over the literal meaning of individual words. Reserving judgment on "iPod classic", since it's not entirely clear from the article whether or not it is the actual name of the product or a popular tag. 217.36.107.9 (talk) 11:53, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Dhamma Vicaya → Dhamma vicaya (Discuss) - The title is a Pali term. In Pali, this term is not capitalized (in fact, there is essentially no capitalization in Pali). Moreover, in the first sentence of the WP article itself the term is lowercased ("dhamma vicaya"). In addition, the few WP articles that point to this article have the title all lowercase ("dhamma vicaya") and then use a wikipipe to link to the current article ("Dhamma Vicaya"). All that is at Dhamma vicaya currently is a redirect to Dhamma Vicaya (along with "R from other capitalisation"). If you were to Google this term, you'd see the vast majority of references are to "dhamma vicaya" or "dhamma-vicaya" or some lower-cased variant. Sorry I couldn't do this move myself. Thanks for any help! - Larry Rosenfeld (talk) 03:12, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Julian the Apostate → Julian of Rome —(Discuss)— The title displays a POV that can easily offend non-Christians. Many academic sources have been cited, showing that "the Apostate" is a descriptor very often left out. An alterate name to be proposed could Flavius Claudius Iulianus. The main goal is to get "the Apostate" out of the name --Thegreyanomaly (talk) 01:39, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- Interstate 110 and State Route 110 (California) to Harbor Freeway —(Discuss)— - Harbor and Pasadena Frwy is sort of distinctive route. Gaffey St. in San Pedro, California is eliminate like one or 2 years ago. You can still see it on some Los Angeles-Orange County map, but Caltrans have project to eliminate it. Harbor Frwy begun construction in 1952 and complete in 1964 as SR 11. US 6 I thought is old Figuerou St. Pasadena Frwy begun at 1939 and finish in 1953, and was old US 66 Aroyo Seco Pkwy if I'm right, and Pasadena Frwy is a historical landmark.--Freewayguy Msg USC 21:51, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
- Slipknot (band) → Slipknot —(Discuss)— move over redirect - someone wants this move, but:
- to most people a slipknot is a slip knot, and the band should have the suffix "(band)". See the discussion link for more information, and discuss there. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 22:37, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
- PlayTV (Sony) → PlayTV —(Discuss)— Page was moved from here by a user in favour of a disambiguation page with only one other link on, which linked to a non-existant page. The subject of the potential page is also much less known than the Sony Playstation3 Add-On. This should really have been implemented using an other uses template instead. --10:17, 5 July 2008 (UTC)ChappyTC
- Y Ddraig Goch → Welsh Dragon —(Discuss)— This is a page in the English language section of the encyclopedia. There is a welsh language part of this site which should have Y Ddraig Goch as the title. It is not a name of, say, a brand, which should only be said in Welsh. An example being, if the company "French Connection" were to be in the Welsh language wiki it should, surely, still have "French Connection" as the title. I would site the Eiffel Tower which, in the English language page, is the Eiffel Tower and not La Tour Eiffel. --Hypnoticmonkey (talk) 19:16, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
Backlog
Move dated sections here after five days have passed (July 3 or older).
- Y'UV → YUV —(Discuss)— YUV is the more popular usage by a wide margin, even though is Y'UV might be the mathematically correct usage according to some editor. --Voidvector (talk) 21:05, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
- Aorangi Terrace → Henman Hill —(Discuss)— The name of an article should be the most commonly used name. Aorangi Terrace may be the official title, but the name most commonly used is Henman Hill. Even with Andy Murray replacing Tim Henman as the British No.1, the area is still called Henman Hill in most broadcasts. Most people wouldn't know what Aorangi Terrace was, whereas almost everyone knows Henman Hill, even if they use a different name. --Philip Stevens (talk) 20:02, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
- Numeral catalogs normally do not have a space between the system and the object. See Extrasolar planets#Nomenclature --NuclearVacuum 20:19, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- The The Extrasolar Planets Encyclopaedia uses spaces between the name and the object. I think a space will avoid potential confusion in instances where a prominent star's historical name or bayer/flamsteed designation is used. For example: "Vegab" or "Vega b", "61 Cygb" or "61 Cyg b", assuming such were discovered.—RJH (talk) 17:01, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
- Fête nationale du Québec (Saint Jean Baptiste Day) → Saint Jean Baptiste Day —(Discuss)— As per wiki naming conventions "article naming should prefer what the greatest number of English speakers would most easily recognize"; the French and Quebec name for the holiday may be recognizable to English-speakers in Quebec, but probably not elsewhere in Canada or in the U.S.; I think the sources listed in the discussion page show this. --soulscanner (talk) 05:25, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- This proposal is contested and is opposed by multiple editors. I had moved it into the subsection Incomplete and contested proposals and it should be moved back there please. Cirt (talk) 06:39, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- This is subject to an RfC which has not been conducted yet. There are numerous alternative translations into English, all wrong, and the requester for move knows full well this is a very controversial move--mrg3105 (comms) ♠♥♦♣ 00:24, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- For the record, as the requester, I would like to state this is categorically incorrect. I know neither of an RfC nor of any particular controversy surrounding the issue. It's merely a clerical WP:UE matter to me. Biruitorul Talk 03:59, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- See requested move of Narodnoe Opolcheniye--mrg3105 (comms) ♠♥♦♣ 00:24, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- Dutch Occupation of Acadia → Nova Hollandia —(Discuss)— The current title is misleading, implying an occupation of most, or a substantial part of Acadia. The proposed title is on the grave marker of the occupying force commander as the name of the occupied territory. --70.51.9.241 (talk) 07:22, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
- Ninja Gaiden (series) → Ninja Gaiden —(Discuss)— Upon concensus by discussion listed, to eliminate what has been determined to be an unnecessary disambiguation page (which is the article the old page wishes to move to), and then also to eliminate potential ambiguities between the series and the various video games who all bear the exact same name. (All corresponding video game articles are already differentiated from the series article.) --MuZemike (talk) 16:26, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- Bessarabia in the Russian Empire → Bessarabia Governorate—(Discuss) - All exising articles for the Governorates of the Russian Empire have titles indicating the name of the Gorverorate, regardless of the changes which occured after 1917. There is no reason to have a separate rule for the Bessarabia Governorate.Afil (talk) 01:30, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
- Javelin (weapon) → Javelin —(Discuss)— This move should be reconsider because the weapon is the principal meaning of the term and because of consistency with similar entries like sword or lance.--Nik Sage (talk/contrib) 12:26, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- Zhuyin → Bopomofo —(Discuss)— Bopomofo is the more common English name for this phonetic alphabet. It is also the name used by international organizations such as ISO. In addition, it is odd to romanize the name using a competing phonetic system. --Voidvector (talk) 08:30, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- Input method editor → Input method —(Discuss)— Input method editor is a name that is fairly specific to the Windows platform. Most other operating systems call it "Input method" or other names. So I propose this article to be moved to a more platform-neutral name location. --Voidvector (talk) 06:35, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- Civil War (comic book) → Civil War (comics) (Discuss) Because "Civil War" refers not only to the title of the comic book, but also the events it contains (i.e. in-continuity, characters refer to the events of Civil War as the "Super-Hero Civil War" or simply the "Civil War"), the page should be moved "Civil War (comics)".--Darknus823 (talk) 05:27, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
- Voßstraße → Voss Strasse —(Discuss)— In case already an established english spelling variant exists, I think we should use this one. (That's not only my own opinion but also seems to be consens on Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names)#Use English.) I've now checked the online accessible references in this article: Its mostly spelled "Voss Strasse". (Perhaps someone should check the newspapers and books cited, too.) Thus, I now suggest to move the article to "Voss Strasse". Suggestion made by by [[User:Cyfal|Cyfal]; posted by Septentrionalis PMAnderson 21:54, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- This article about a street in Berlin causes constant headaches over its spelling, and it apparently even had been created (as Voss-strasse) to make a point about English spelling. As German Wikipedia does not bother to cover this street with a separate article (which would be at de:Voßstraße), even though it is mentioned in several articles [2], we simply should merge, redirect, and bury this hatchet for good. -- Matthead Discuß 10:15, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'd just like to point out that from a translator's POV it is standard practice to transliterate German ß as ss in English translations, even if the source text is not Swiss, so to me, moving it makes sense. Akerbeltz (talk) 10:19, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- Merge with what? Page Voßstraße seems to me to be plenty big enough to stand on its own. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 20:31, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
