Pedantry

I have been reading the article College Town and on the talk page I came across a discussion over whether college town should be the correct term as some may technically be cities or villages. I stated there that 'college town; is the term in common use and that in my opinion it is the job of an encyclopedia to state what is in common use and not what should be in common use. I'm sure these examples of pedantry are fairly common on wikipedia but didn't find anything in the content guidelines about this. Does wikipedia have an official line on pedantry and should it have one? --82.71.201.5 (talk) 09:03, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

I don't think there is a policy on pedantry but decisions are governed by consensus. Also redirects work great in situations like that. GtstrickyTalk or C 17:24, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Prawn

This article has been under attack for the past thirty minutes. It seems the user is switching computers to not use up the same IP, since the vandalism says the exact same thing on each edit. I don't know which IP to report, and I am afraid of violating the 3RR rule. Help? -- Mr. E. Sánchez Wanna know my story?/ Share yours with me! 02:42, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

You might want to request protection at WP:RFPP. And 3RR does not apply to reverting vandalism. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 02:51, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Two questions about Richard Krawiec article:

1) With the link from Yao Ming and the many links outward, is it ok now to take off the orphan template? 2) I'm wondering if I should put a pov template on it, per my comments on the talk page about it sounding like a resume. Thanks, 130.86.14.82 (talk) 00:28, 15 July 2008 (UTC)Rich (talk) 00:58, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

They're still no articles linking to Richard Krawiec, so no, it wouldn't be appropriate to remove {{orphan}}. Algebraist 00:35, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Not sure about the orphan tag, but the article needs some work as far as references are concerned. I have moved what were listed as references to the external links section (because they were not linked to statements in the text) and bulleted all those links. The references will need to be looked at to see which ones can be added "in-line" using the <ref> and </ref> tags. – ukexpat (talk) 00:39, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
thanks for doing that.Rich (talk) 18:33, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Sockpuppet question

I'm looking into some apparent sock puppet activity by a user who has been suspected of using socks in the past. The current case says: Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/XXX (2nd nomination) but I'm wondering where the history of the (1st nomination) is located. Mrshaba (talk) 02:42, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

It should be at Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/XXX without a number. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:49, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
That's what I figured but it's not working. Mrshaba (talk) 03:05, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Then you may have to say what XXX is if you want help. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:22, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
That makes sense. XXX Mrshaba (talk) 03:26, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
The creator made it with "(2nd nomination)" in the title and then expressed surprise at that.[1] It sounds like it was an error and there is no other page. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:34, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

I just talked to NJGW who created the page and I think he was surprised because he didn't intend to create the page as a second nomination. Can you do that? If I go and make a page on XXX I figure it will pop up (3rd nomination) because there's an automatic protocol built into the system that keeps track of things. I still don't understand why the system isn't kicking out the first nomination though? Can these histories be toyed with? Mrshaba (talk) 03:59, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

If you create the page manually then you can call it anything and I don't think there is an automatic protocol. But it appears from the edit summary of NJGW that the page was created with Twinkle. I don't have Twinkle and don't know how it selects the page name. This is pure speculation but maybe NJGW chose a wrong Twinkle function which creates the page with "(2nd nomination)" without checking whether a 1st nomination exists - or maybe there was a Twinkle error. If you create a new page then I suggest calling it "(3rd)" (omitting "nomination" is recommended), and explaining on the page that there probably is no 1st. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:00, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for the info on this confusing situation. Mrshaba (talk) 16:55, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Bingham Canyon Mine

I would like to format this article so the "See also" section occurs below the image of the mine in 1910. I have seen this done, but don't recall the code. How do I do this? Thx. --Blechnic (talk) 02:45, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Just move the image up, for example to just before a text paragraph you want displayed next to the image. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:53, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Y Done - Simply place {{clear}} where you want a separation (click the link for details). I've done it for you. If you do want an image to be included in the See also section, just move it there. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 03:19, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks both. --Blechnic (talk) 05:55, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Looking for a third party

Hi. I'm reasonably new to Wiikipedia and have been editing an article Fire pit because it read like a sales pitch about selling fire pits for the garden. However, I don't know a huge amount about garden-fire-pits, and whilst I've put some information in about fire pits in history, it seems like it's lacking a bit now. Can anyone help me improve the article without it being too short OR an advert for fire pits?

Thanks! Oldandfat (talk) 12:59, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Try using a tag on the page to request help, maybe {{expert}}. GtstrickyTalk or C 17:20, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
You should sign your comments on Talk:Fire pit#Things. See Help:Talk page. --Teratornis (talk) 19:50, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
If your interest is about garden fire pits, maybe someone at Wikipedia:WikiProject Horticulture and Gardening can help. However, judging from that WikiProject's page, it doesn't look like they are very far along yet (for an example of a mature WikiProject, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Mathematics). To search for scholarly sources, you can try {{Google scholar cite}}:

It still exists, or has been recreated, at Sister Nancy, but note that it has been nominated for speedy deletion. A couple of things to note -- you should not be creating or editing articles about yourself because of your conflict of interest, and also it is not "your" article.  – ukexpat (talk) 14:29, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Moving to an already existent page

How do I move LaSalle Bank Theatre's page to Bank of America Theatre's page? The Theatre is under new corporate sponsorship and therefore LaSalle Bank Theatre no longer exists. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kimberlyhobart (talkcontribs) 15:29, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

See WP:MOVE for instructions:

How to Note that on many wikis you have to be logged in, and there may be a set length of time that you will have to have had an account for (often four days).

With the correct page displayed, click on the "Move" tab near the top of the page (in default Monobook skin). You'll be asked for a new name for the page, and given the option to also move the page's talk page. NOTE: Unless you know what you're doing, it's safest to say yes. As of MediaWiki 1.5, the reason for the move can be given, like an edit summary.

Click the move button and the page will be renamed to the new title. The old title will become a redirect page, so any links to the old title will still go to the new page. However, note that double redirects (pages that redirect to the original page), will not automatically follow to the new page, so you will have to refer them manually (as explained at How to fix a double redirect and Checking for double redirects.)

  1. after a successful page move, a page looking like this will be shown: MediaWiki:Movepage-moved;
  2. Open the what-links-here for that page (there may be a shortcut link on the page-moved summary screen to let you do this, but the what-links-here link will in any case be in the toolbox, which is near the bottom of the sidebar unless you've customized your skin away from the default Monobook);
  3. Open all redirect pages that are indented in the list, and make them redirect to the page you moved to (that is, without intermediate step);
  4. If there are more than 50 pages listed on the "what links here" page, don't forget to navigate to all parts of the list using the "next 50" or other links available.

GtstrickyTalk or C 17:16, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

It has already been moved to Bank of America Theatre. --—— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 17:26, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

PICUM title

When I tried to create a page, a message came up that I cannot use the title PICUM for a page because it is on a blacklist. I don't really understand why, and can I change this? PICUM is a non-governmental organisation based in Brussels and we would like to create a page for it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by PICUM (talkcontribs) 15:34, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

What is the exact name of the page you tried to create? I don't see a problem with the names PICUM or Picum. Are you sure the message was not about a blacklisted external link on the page you tried to create? There are problems with you creating an article about your own organization. See Wikipedia:FAQ/Business (also applies to organizations), Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, and Wikipedia:Username policy#Company/group names. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:51, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
PICUM is protected, see [2]; Picum is not, [3]. – ukexpat (talk) 15:54, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
OK. I didn't get any message for PICUM on my admin account like I have gotten for other protected titles and I couldn't find any log for PICUM. The problem is apparently that it matches a regexp protection at MediaWiki:Titleblacklist on page names containing "CUM". Some vandals create or move pages with dirty words in the name. I will look into it. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:10, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
I have created a stub at PICUM with my administrator account. Other accounts should be able to edit the page - but it may be deleted soon because I didn't add independent sources. PrimeHunter (talk) 16:43, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
The page has now been deleted. If you want to write an article about PICUM, first construct it in your own sandbox (eg. here - User:PICUM/Sandbox ) and then ask an administrator to create the article with this content on. - tholly --Turnip-- 18:25, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

google images

This is just a suggestion, i think it would be a good idea in the "External Links" to add a link to the google image database for the subject —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.132.122.12 (talk) 16:05, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Like google needs free advertising. Also, see number 9 on this list, which basically states don't add links to search engine results. DaRkAgE7[Talk] 17:08, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
Sometimes links are added to Wikimedia Commons (here), which is a repository of free content images. Often these images are more topical too, as they have been uploaded by users. To add this type of link, add {{commons|SUBJECT OR TOPIC}}. Just check that related images exist first, by saving the page as a preview, and then following the link. - tholly --Turnip-- 17:50, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Changing PNG to SVG in an article

I originally posted this here but was advised to post it again, here. So, here goes:

The above is a favourite hobby of mine on Wikipedia and is usually fairly straightforward (just editing the image link in the article, so long as an SVG exists). However, with this page the PNG seems to be embedded in some template - {{runic}}, I think - but I can't make head nor tail of Template:runic. How do I change the PNG contained within to an SVG? Thanks in advance.

Edit: the PNG in the article is now an SVG but I'm still none the wiser as to who made the change or how they did it. Could someone please explain how to change PNGs in similar pages? It Is Me Here (talk) 17:41, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

The .svg image in the table on the right of the article comes from here, a template created for the article. User:Leolaursen edited this template on 14 July to make the picture a .svg. See this difference for how they did it. To find a template like this, look on the main article page and you will see something like this at at the top: {{EXAPMLE infobox}}. The just type in Template:EXAMPLE infobox to the search box to see the template.
Does this help? - tholly --Turnip-- 18:00, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Email Trouble

Hi, I changed my email address since I registered with wikipedia. The old address was <email removed>, and I don't have access to it anymore. I also forgot my password (yes, I'm a flake), but when the new password is sent it goes to... the old account. Argh. My new address is <email removed>, and my username was meerkat. Any way I can fix this? Thanks, Jeri —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.229.30.100 (talk) 18:03, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

No, you'll have to create a new account. You can redirect your old user pages to your new ones if you want. I've removed your email addresses (posting them here is asking to get spammed). Algebraist 18:18, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
(ec) You could also asked to be renamed after you have made several edits with your new account. I don't know whether it would be accepted, but it could be as "Meerkat" has made less than 20 edits, the most recent in 2004. - tholly --Turnip-- 18:21, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Marchand de Bien

Dear Wikipedia People.

My user name is Yambry, and a few days ago I wrote a small article relating the role of a 'Marchand de Bien' in France. It looks great on my page..........but that is as far as it has ever gone. When I search under 'Marchand de Bien'.....nothing.

Any ideas?

Many thanks. I look forward to hearing from you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yambry (talkcontribs) 19:00, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

You edited your user page with some content about Marchand de Bien. See: User:Yambry. You seem to be trying to create a new article. You can be bold ("L'audace, l'audace, toujours l'audace!") if you like, but be aware that Wikipedia has some rather unintuitive policies and guidelines, and thus new users who create new articles before reading lots of our friendly manuals often end up asking: Why was my article deleted? A gentler way to approach Wikipedia is to start by editing existing articles. You may wish to see:

Lupin's tool

I've been around Wikipedia for a while now, and have had Lupin's tool installed but have never really used it due to errors it caused on my PC. Recently I have tried using the "edit history stats" tool to see who's made the most edits to a certain article, and my name does not appear on the list despite the fact that I have made many edits to the article. I should be about #3 on the list, but I am not shown there. Does anyone know what might be wrong? Thanks, —Mizu onna sango15/Discuss 20:52, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Java classes

I notice that there are a lot features that are not supported in Wikipedia's MediaWiki:Common.js, which occasionally make it difficult to create certain templates. Is it possible to create your own Java classes? ChyranandChloe (talk) 03:41, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Nope, for security reasons. And do you mean Java or JavaScript? Calvin 1998 (t-c) 05:17, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
I don't know what you mean "for security reasons". Not a single part of Wikipedia runs on Java, so its "nope, for technical reasons". You can write your own JavaScript scripts and include them in your personal monobook.js (or 'theme-of-choice'.js), but that JavaScript will only excute for you and no one else. -- ShinmaWa(talk) 18:31, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
That was my point: If you mean Java, than the MediaWiki is incapable of handling it (it's web-based, and you can't run applets on it. Mediawiki:Common.js is JavaScript, not Java). If you mean JavaScript, it could be, but is disabled due to the fact that well written malicious JavaScript could compromise your account, destroy the wiki within seconds, etc. etc. etc. etc. if it ran automatically for all users. So any JavaScript you write will only work for the users who have that code in their .js file. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 19:34, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, I forgot to specify that it was Java Script. Thanks for the insight, I knew that there was some was security issues involved. What is the proposal process that needs to done before a JS class can be moved into the MediaWiki:Common.js. ChyranandChloe (talk) 02:50, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
Hmm... 1.) There has to be a good reason 2.)I suppose you could ask at the technical village pump, unless someone here knows... Calvin 1998 (t-c) 03:29, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
That sounds like the best place, I would agree. On a side note, Java and JavaScript are essentially unrelated, despite the name (you can blame Sun Microsystems for this particular piece of confusing nomenclature!) If only we could persuade everyone to use the "new" name ECMAScript, life would be that much less mixed-up! I presume your proposed additions relate to the Main Page redesign? --tiny plastic Grey Knight 07:11, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Yes, the main purpose right now is the for the 2008 main page redesign proposal. I also see some potential in adding a few more features to the MediaWiki:Common.js such as: tabs, screen.width detection, more options to the show/hide feature, and so on. In fact, we really don't need to program most of these; just snatch them off the other Wikipedias. I think this is resolved, thanks guys. ChyranandChloe (talk) 02:30, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Using episode list template

I'm having a bit of trouble with the "Episode list" template that I created (Template:Episode list/All Saints). I have been using it in the transclusion of stuff from All Saints (season 11) to List of All Saints episodes. I want to add an 'Audience' column to the episode table at All Saints (season 11) but I dont want it to show up on the table at List of All Saints episodes (under season 11). I've tried a few things but I cant get it to work. Can someone please help? Davido321 (talk) 05:12, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

I believe it's fixed, now. The column existed on both All Saints (season 11) and List of All Saints episodes, but was only fed data on the former. By adding another parser function, the column will only be displayed on the first page. I encourage you to double check my work, though. – Luna Santin (talk) 07:20, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Navigation templates

Is there a guideline stating that navigation templates should be attached only to articles that are included in the template? --Geronimo20 (talk) 08:36, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

May I restate this: Is it okay to attach a navigation template to an article which is not included in the template, such as the template placed at the bottom of this article. --Geronimo20 (talk) 13:47, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

If no-one here is sure of the answer, where else might I ask? --Geronimo20 (talk) 22:30, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

It seems very relevant, and even though the article isn't in that template, it is in the identically named WikiProject. I'd say go with common sense over the possibility of illogical rules, but I'd assume the members of that project would be the ones to ask. Someguy1221 (talk) 22:47, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

You might find what you are looking for in the article about credit (finance). If you cannot find the answer there, click here to post your question at that article's talk page. If that does not solve your problem, you can try asking your question at Wikipedia's Reference Desk. They will be glad to try and answer questions about anything in the universe (except about how to use Wikipedia, which is what this help desk is for). I hope this helps. I don't think an article's talk page is the right place to be asking questions unrelated to the form of the article itself. I think the ref desk is the appropriate place to ask. – ukexpat (talk) 13:35, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

Is it wise for me to make an account?

I've been using this site for a while now, initially for research purposes, but more recently I have begun making the occasional anonymous edit. I was thinking about creating an account, but I don’t really see the benefit of doing so, and now I have read something on user:barneca’s talk page which has kinda put me off making an account. The user says "Although I think I’m a very low-value target for Hivemind-type people (I don’t really do controversy much), I’ve simply been too careless, and left too many clues to my real life identity sprinkled around the internet, and have no desire to risk being put thru what others have been put thru recently." What do they mean "risk being put thru what others have been put thru recently"??? I would like to know what this user means before I think about making an account. An account at base is more anonymous than editing under your ip address. Ip addresses can be traced to internet service providers and to geologic locations and in some cases to the actual computer being used. An account shields you from this type of tracing by the general public. Of course, if you post a profile and include volunteered personal information, then that can lead to somneone finding out your real identity. I don't know what happened to Barneca, but I can tell you that there are a number of websites dedicated to finding out the real identities of Wikipedia administrators they dislike and smearing them. The quote shows by admission that it was the posting of details and clues about himself/herself that led to whatever vulnerability was exploited. If you don't do that, you won't leave yourself exposed.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 12:55, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
This Wikipedia:Why create an account? should give you some more answers ... -- Tinu Cherian - 13:11, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Putting security concerns aside, there are a lot of other benefits to creating an account. An account allows you to create articles, upload images, and move pages. You can also set up a watchlist to track changes to pages you're interested in. See here for more info. Cheers! TNX-Man 13:12, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
(EC)Fuhghettaboutit is correct. Creating an account will likely be more private unless you reveal personal information about yourself. Along with that there are numerous other benefits: The ability to carry on protracted conversations, the ability to watchlist pages, and the ability to track your own contributions. After 4 days and 10 edits under the account (both requirements must be satisfied), you will gain access to additional resources such as the ability to move pages if necessary, and after a while, with enough edits you are able to vote in board and committee elections as well as other important things (the edit and time requirements for these vary between individual applications).--Oni Ookami AlfadorTalk|@ 13:16, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
Hi. I don't really think you need to worry about the issues mentioned on Barneca's usertalkpage. The thing is, a select few high-profile users and administrators are harrased by off-wiki projects (like ED, WR, and 4C). The "Hivemind" that she talks about is sort of like an attack site by wikipedia review (which I'm not allowed to link to). Simply creating an account does not put you at risk for such problems, as long as you don't leave your personal information all over the Internet. More than likely you won't have to deal with the kinds of "things" that people are talking about here, as most of those things are experienced by very high-profile users, and most attacks that vandals sometimes make are relatively minor and can be resolved quickly. Thanks. ~AH1(TCU) 17:21, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

templates

I currently run an internal wiki tool for my company and would like to add infobox's to client profiles. I have viewed multiple pages on this matter and tried to use some of the infobox templates already made but none of them seem to work. I'm looking for any insight into this matter. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.246.107.198 (talk) 22:00, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

(ec) That's probably because Wikipedia infoboxes rely on various CSS classes defined in MediaWiki:Common.css. Algebraist 22:04, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

equipment lists

my question has to do with world war two equipment lists, should these be posted or not? for instance, if you look up a "SCR-584 radar" it stands to reason that there is an scr-1 through scr-583 ect. most of these are radios. each one you could write a page on, some of these sets had a vehicle made just for them. which is a hole nuther list. and of coures each vehicle had a mfgr, which is a hole nuther list. the cross refrenceing would be nice, but?

Brian in denver (talk) 22:22, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

I would not assume that each model had been actually fielded. Some may have never gotten off the drawing board, some may have never been developed or the nomenclature system could have changed in midstream. --—— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 23:06, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

most of these lists already exhist on other sites but there "dumb" lists. another words thay dont click to other items, bottom line, I dont want to spent 5,000 houres doing the data entry only to have it deleted, becouse its not an "article"

If there's no more information on each of the models than the fact that they were made during WWII, it would be enough to just link to the other-site lists from some appropriate article. Someguy1221 (talk) 23:27, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
On a side note, there are actually some computer programs (called "bots") owned by some of our users which can take care of laborious tasks like that if it ever comes up. I agree with User:Someguy1221 that there might not be enough information available to get more than a link out of it though. Maybe you could write an article about the series as a whole? Like the Signal Corps Radio, which in fact I see you've already started! :-) Any really notable ones in the series (like the SCR-584) can be mentioned individually and linked, presumably there are only a few such. --tiny plastic Grey Knight 07:02, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
well heres an example of a list
http://ww2dodge.com/w/index.php?title=K-list
took me about 6 months to compile this one on another wiki. its for wwII signal corps vehicles, that were given a "K-number"
as you can see, going accross a row, you could give each item a link, truck, 4x4, mfgr, on accross to assos. equipment. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Brian in denver (talkcontribs) 15:19, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Watermarked image

Why is an image with a watermark not acceptable? 59.183.26.237 (talk) 10:19, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Not sure what you're referring to but, generally, watermarks are used to explicitly call out copyright on the image. Since Wikipedia prefers freely distributed images, and the primary focus of the image should be its subject, watermarks seem contrary to building an encyclopedia. If you have a more specific concern, please feel free to clarify. — The Hand That Feeds You:Bite 11:07, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Google

How does an article you write appear on google when the title is typed in?! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Emmadarvill28 (talkcontribs) 10:43, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

It will take some time for Google to index the Wikipedia page in their engine - it can be a few hours or it could be days, weeks or never. Wikipedia can't control what Google does (in this regard) and if or when they will index an article. Pedro :  Chat  10:49, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
I'm assuming the article is SNO!zone. I've just done a re-write, as the article was almost deletable on sight as an advert. Please remember this is an encyclopedia not a free web host or advertising site. Pedro :  Chat  10:55, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

I cannot access my account

Hello, please please help me, I cannot access my account and I do not know why. I am the "Martin Jee" who made some edits to Oliver Heald's page. I would like to make some more changes and start some new pages which I have been planning, however I can no longer access my account. This is important to me as it took some time to build up the "trusted user status" and I don't want to have to start again!!

Can any one help me to access my account?

Did you forget your password? If so and if you submitted an e-mail address when you registered your account, you should be able to have your password e-mailed to you by following the link on the log-in page. I see from User:Martin Jee that you are a researcher for Mr Heald. That puts you in a conflict of interest, so your edits will be heavily scrutinised. Non-controversial edits should be OK, but anything else should be discussed on the article's talk page first. – ukexpat (talk) 13:51, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

I am a single mother of four children that has been in court for three years now and got full custody of my children but yet the police will not inforce this order. My son is with his father a man with a history of abuse and I have police inforcement in my order. Why is it that a police officer can look at me in the face and say, "That order means nothing to me? but yet it's just a paper?" Why did I spend so much time for my children safety if the law doesn't protect me? How do I get my son back? If I digit "EFSA" in the wikipedia search box and then click on "GO", I get the security warning message "Do you want to save this file?". Could you please help me to fix this problem? Thank you in advance. Mttfrn7H6 (talk) 14:05, 17 July 2008 (UTC).

Are you sure that another page is not causing the problem? Doing that should make you end up at European Food Safety Authority. Wikipedia will not attempt to download anything but a file called "index.php", and that is only when you ask for it by appending &action=raw to the URL. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 14:09, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
My computer sometimes does that as well, it is very annoying. It seems to think that the page your are opening is a document or other such file and that the website is trying to download it. I don't know what you can do though, other than restarting your computer or quitting the browser and trying again. Harland1 (t/c) 14:31, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Restoration of Article

Hello,

I mistakenly edited an article "Nova Lehota" and would like to restore the original text while saving my edition as a new article. Can't find how to do it in your FAQs and tutorials. How can I restore the older version of an article if possible? I do not want to loose my editing too, so I want to esteblish/split the new article.

thanks

Looks like you edited the article back in March. We can restore the article without your changes, but could you clarify a little more? Why do you want your changes removed? GlassCobra 15:05, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

I wanted to make an article about a village Nova Lehota which has been a former German minority inhabitat. However, there has been another village of this name with its own article which I thought to be about mine but with wrong data. I only later realized I ruined someone's article. Therefore I want to restore the original article about the village of the same name and proceed working on my own village's article. I would like to delete all my editing since the very first one to be traced but do not want to loose the actual state of the article which refers to my topic.Thanks... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vetroplach (talkcontribs) 15:23, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

I've reverted the article to a version before you made your edits (and restored some edits made after yours). Previous versions of the article can be found in the history. --Random832 (contribs) 19:12, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
