Michael Machemehl, from the German city of Annaberg, Saxony, was a German Texan of the Forty-Eighters and a notable figure in the context of the early German settlement of Austin County, Texas.[1] After their arrival in 1849 near Bellville, Texas, Machemehl and his companions and family created a center of social activity within the German Texan community.[2][3] Machemehl's wife was Charlotte Marschner Machemehl. Michael and Charlotte’s daughter was Emilie Bertha Machemehl.[4] Machemehl’s son Johann Machemehl was born in 1816 in Annaberg. Johann, a university educated youth, was the forester for the city of Annaberg and is buried at the Machemehl Cemetery located near Bellville.[5]
