Vice-Senior General Maung Aye (Burmese:
; IPA: [maʊN éi]), born 25 December 1937[1] in Konbalu, in modern-day Sagaing Division, Myanmar, is the Vice-Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC), the ruling military junta of Myanmar. Maung Aye is the second highest-ranking member of the SPDC.
He began his military career while studying at the Defence Services Academy in Maymyo, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1959.
Maung Aye was appointed deputy commander-in-chief of the armed forces in 1993, and became Vice-Chairman of the State Law and Order Restoration Council (now the SPDC) in 1994. In 1997, Maung Aye also became head of the National Trade Council. He was known to have disliked former Prime Minister Khin Nyunt, and may be responsible for Khin Nyunt's house arrest in 2004.
